Down and out anywhere, USA.

Uncategorized Aug 14, 2020

An unsheltered person worn to the bones, deflated in spirit on a bench in my home town - a familiar scene on benches across America.
Early in the morning, I stopped to asked if he needed help or wanted breakfast. He said no.
So I sat with him and asked how he was doing. I’ve asked this same person the same question a dozen times over the last couple of years. Today he gave me a different answer, “I’m ready to go into treatment.” I made a call to arrange a ride and get him on his way - he’s ready for change. Don’t give up on helping those who have lost their way.

It's remarkable, that ARC has the ear of the IRS on behalf of the homeless!

Uncategorized Aug 13, 2020

The IRS saw ARC’s story on CNN and contacted us for insights on how they can improve how the underserved population in America get their stimulus checks.
We discussed that millions are homeless, and over 20 million more are facing losing their home due to COVID related evictions. Millions are hungry and need this money for food. Their $1200 payment, which can potentially be $2400, will save them from going over the edge into what feels like oblivion; for others, it will help them hang on.
In our second round of talks, with higher up representatives, who have the power to affect IRS policy change, I made a case explaining the importance of switching from mailing checks to mailing debit cards instead. People will immediately have full access to $1200/$2400 by simply calling the number on the back of the card and entering a 4-digit PIN.
Compared to the alternative pandemic quagmire: Due to COVID - the Department of Social Services, with a $5 ID voucher, is closed till January....

Be a ray of light for someone and let God do the rest.

Uncategorized Aug 11, 2020

A woman found my ARC business card on the floor of our local laundromat called Tiny Bubbles. Ironically she stages homes for a living but doesn’t have a home of her own for herself and autistic child. Due to domestic violence and COVID related shutdowns, she now lives in a tent.
She called, asking for any help as she feels adrift and lost in the pandemic mayhem.
She received a housing voucher, but it expires soon. I offered to help her. Once she signs an authorization form, ARC can step in and advocate for her and seek to secure housing.
She was also offered a house staging job but had no gas for her truck that’s packed full of her belongings. Recently a kind-hearted person handed me $40 while feeding the homeless, I offered to give her this money, so we met at Tiny Bubbles, and I handed her cash along with my promise to help get her and her child into a home before her voucher runs out. Be a ray of light for someone and let God do the rest.
Your donations help.

Her sign said - Hungry, broke, homeless, and need summer clothes.

Uncategorized Aug 03, 2020

She was lying down on the concrete in the heat of the day with traffic on all sides.
I asked if she wanted to come with me to get something to eat or drink. She said she needed to stay on her spot, so I gave her a mask and a day-pack with food and water. She said she has a housing navigator but has been waiting for years for a place to live.
I asked how I could help.
She said, “All I need is summer clothes, these are the only clothes I own. I need to change my clothes.” I carry a stash of clothes for both men and women and gave her what I had and said a prayer. Breaks my heart.
Sometimes having a stash of essentials will help an unsheltered person more than we know.

A man who got my number off our van

Uncategorized Jul 31, 2020

I got a call from a man who got my number off our van while we were serving scallop potatoes to nearly 200 people today.
He said, “My taxes are paying for that park that they are loitering in and basically you are enabling a lifestyle choice. No one is making them do drugs.“
I responded, “Dozens of people who were here today are living in their cars or sleeping on the ground and terrified because they were evicted from their homes. Most unsheltered people are not drug users, they are one paycheck away from not being able to afford rent.
Because of the pandemic, it’s predicted that over 20 million people will be homeless in America by the end of summer - evections are being handed out if people can’t pay rent.
ARC provides wrap-around services, like helping the homeless sign up for their stimulus checks and housing. In the meantime people are hungry. Our goal is to get people off the streets while keeping them alive until we do.” The man said,...

The Homeless sign up for COVID-19 Help

Uncategorized Mar 27, 2020

Angel Resource Connection (ARC) has been serving the homeless population in Snohomish, King, Skagit, and Whatcom counties since 2017. These days, local government agencies and nonprofits have shut their doors to the homeless population due to the "stay-at-home" mandate.
The homeless are understandably frightened. A limited number of social service workers or healthcare services are available to them.  Many with no phones or bus passes to get help feel hopeless.
Because of the social support offices' closure, we see that ARC has become an essential service for the homeless now more than ever.
ARC helps the homeless battle an avoidable health crisis—hypothermia—by giving them the right winter clothes, blankets, or sleeping bags to face the harsh winter.
Homeless women do not have a dedicated emergency shelter and bath facilities, so ARC provides resources to the underserved, homeless women in Snohomish County. These women face severe problems; they have no place...

Jimmy John's Donates to the Homeless!

Uncategorized Mar 20, 2020
Jimmy John’s donated over 100 bread rolls today! We took them to a commercial kitchen and made ham and cheese sandwiches. Once we set down the box, the sandwiches were gone in minutes! Dropping off ready-made food is safer than serving meals right now. I’m grateful that we can keep feeding those who are hungry and homeless and figure out ways to stay safe from coronavirus exposure.
ARC is working on being a voice for the homeless with the city, state and county officials to make sure promised critical aid packages get to the homeless.

No Shelter In Place For the Homeless

Uncategorized Mar 13, 2020

To most of us, the Shelter in Place order means we at least have a home to find comfort and safety during this pandemic. However most of the homeless population, Shelter in Place means nothing! They have nowhere to go!
Just for a moment, just imagine being as concerned and vigilant as you have been about preparing for the coronavirus, but no home to go to for you and your family! It’s a nightmare every day to kind-hearted people who share our feelings about needing protection from this virus.
The homeless are frightened. They are only hearing pandemic sound bites; there is no way to get current news.
For Mike and Donna, their Shelter in Place last night was found at a bus stop. An officer stopped to tell them they had 5 min to pack up. While waiting in his car, I approached him and said I was helping them get breakfast, bus passes, and other services. He said okay and decided to drive away.
I found out that Mike is a vet, and Donna has a housing voucher. I told them I would...

Hygiene Kits for the Homeless

Uncategorized Mar 06, 2020

Street Angel Laurie has a passion for helping homeless women by making hygiene kits. “I can’t imagine how awful it would be for a woman to be homeless, they need to be able to take care of themselves - these kits will help.”
Laurie has involved her daughter and friends to pick up supplies when they can to add to the kits. Angel Resource Connection picked up these much-needed hygiene kits for women and several for men as well. The health of the homeless population is our upmost concern, so we make and hand out over 3,000 hygiene kits each year in four counties; Snohomish, King,  Skagit, and Whatcom.

Be Kind Meals to Kids

Uncategorized Nov 27, 2019

Street Angels have teamed up with a dozen local restaurants to give BE KIND MEALS to about 100 kids at the Boys and Girls Club once a month.
We call it Be Kind Meals because it’s a great message to teach our children and it’s a really kind service these restaurants are doing for our kids.
We know that the end of the month finances can be challenging at times, so ARC just wants to share a little community kindness.
Today Subway made a lot of kids happy with their turkey and cheese sandwiches, plus a few people baked nearly 300 chocolate chip cookies!
School let out early today, so the kiddos were hungry and excited about all the food.
I told them the message of the BE KIND Meals and dozens of kids wrote thank you drawings to give to Subway. We love seeing our community happy!
